Responsibility and values

Suomen Lanka’s work is built on long-term commitment, Finnish craftsmanship and carefully considered choices. To us, responsibility is not a separate part of what we do, but a way of working every day.

Finnish-made production, more responsible materials and the continuous development of our operations guide us in everything we do.

Finnish craftsmanship and the Key Flag Symbol

We want to make high-quality Finnish yarns that stand the test of use and time. At the same time, it is important to us that textile expertise, manufacturing and handicraft traditions are preserved in Finland. We want to do our part in maintaining and developing this tradition, both today and for future generations.

Suomen Langalle on myönnetty Avainlippu-tunnus.

Although cotton does not grow in Finland, we work with a number of Finnish companies and artisans in our sourcing, and we manufacture our products ourselves in the village of Karvala in Lappajärvi – as far as possible. In practice, this means that a significant share of the work, expertise and value creation remains in Finland.

Materials and sourcing

We pay special attention to the materials used in our products and to their origin. Our aim is to ensure that the virgin cotton used in our own products is grown and processed in accordance with organic standards, or alternatively that we use recycled raw materials. The transition to cotton grown and dyed in line with organic standards is gradual and currently applies to part of our materials. Our goal is that, in the future, all virgin cotton used in our products will be grown and dyed in accordance with organic standards.

We are constantly looking for new, better and alternative materials, and we develop our selection based on this work. Material choices have a direct impact on the durability and intended use of our products, which is why we approach them with great care.

Continuous development

We are not finished in this work, nor are we perfect. However, we want to keep improving and develop our operations step by step. We strive for continuous improvement in both our production and our products. This development happens through practical work, gradually and with a long-term perspective.

As a small Finnish company, we can make a difference in many everyday ways: through our material choices, production planning, and how our products are made and designed to last in use. We believe that even small decisions matter when they are made consistently.

Ekokompassi certificate

Suomen Lanka was awarded the Ekokompassi certificate in 2025. Ekokompassi is a Finnish environmental management system and certification that helps companies identify the environmental impacts of their operations and build a goal-oriented environmental programme based on them.

For us at Suomen Lanka, the certificate means above all that environmental work is carried out in a planned, measurable and long-term way. It is not a single end point, but part of the continuous development of the company and its operations. We are committed to setting goals, monitoring their progress and improving our operations continuously. At the same time, we aim to reduce the environmental impact of our own activities as part of this work. In practice, this can be seen in areas such as material choices, sourcing, production planning, reducing waste and material loss, and in design work focused on improving the durability and lifespan of our products.

As a small company, we cannot influence everything, but we can make consistent choices in our day-to-day work and develop our operations year by year in a more responsible direction, without losing our ambition.

The Ekokompassi certificate is awarded for well-executed environmental work, and the certification is based on a company audit carried out by an independent expert. In other words, environmental responsibility is not only promised, but also monitored and developed in practice.

Looking ahead

Finnish handicraft traditions and their preservation are core values for us. We want to work to ensure that skills, materials and the culture of making remain alive in the future as well.

Our goal is to create durable, high-quality products and to make choices that stand the test of time – both in our products and in the way we work. This means long-term decisions that support both the quality of making and the continuity of our operations.
