The cotton twine got a new look

Cotton twine had been used in crochet before, but the collaboration gave their use new visibility and a new color palette. Molla was particularly interested in the stiffness, durability, and how the finished work retains its shape and neat appearance year after year.

The first new shades created in collaboration: moss green, bright yellow, deep violet, and light morning grey brought a new look and freshness to cotton twine. At the same time, the first patterns and collections designed by Molla Mills for Suomen Lanka were created, combining strong colors, graphic design, clear design language, and practicality.

A colour palette built together

Over the years, the color palette has gradually expanded, and many shades have been created through collective brainstorming in everyday life. For example, the shades of honey, mist, carrot, and avocado have been added – recognizable and slightly playful names that have become a part of Suomen Lanka's color world.

Cooperation has also influenced how crochet yarn is viewed in handicraft culture today. Over the years, traditional weaving yarn has evolved into a versatile material for modern crochet and many other crafts.

Beloved patterns from over the years

Suomen Lanka’s Molla cotton twine and Liina cotton twine have been part of this collaboration for many years. Around these yarns, numerous patterns, collections and products have been created, combining beautiful colours, practicality and Molla’s distinctive graphic style.

Over the years, the collaboration has produced many popular designs and patterns, including favourites such as the Kerttu backpack, Frilla small bag and Pirkko bandana. This long-term collaboration has developed step by step through shared making. At its heart is an interest in functional materials, timeless colours and designs, and handicraft projects made to stand the test of use and time.
